     John Neal Bagwell was born on 9 August 1968 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was the son of Joe Neal Bagwell and Carole Fleming. John Neal Bagwell died on 26 December 2022 in Commerce, Jackson County, Georgia, at age 54


Mr. John Neal Bagwell, age 54, of Commerce passed away on Monday, December 26, 2022. Mr. Bagwell was born in Atlanta to Carole Fleming Bagwell and the late Joe Neal Bagwell. Mr. Bagwell was an active member of and Sunday School teacher at Maysville Baptist Church.

A United States Marine Corp veteran, Mr. Bagwell served in Operation Desert Storm. After his military service, he worked as a deputy sheriff in Hall County for 27 years retiring as a Captain. Additionally, he was Captain of the Hall County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard, a member of Gideons International, and an avid student of military history. He held a Master of Public Administration degree from Clemson University.

In addition to his father, Mr. Bagwell was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hoyt (Nell Wilbanks) Fleming of Commerce and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph (Sallie Mae Whitehead) Bagwell of Commerce. He is survived by his daughter, Callie Beth Bagwell of Walnut Grove, Georgia; mother, Carole Fleming Bagwell of Commerce; brother, Erik Bagwell (Gretchen) of Monroe, Georgia; nephews, Grant and Davis Bagwell of Monroe, Georgia; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A graveside service involving immediate family will take place at Grey Hill Cemetery on Friday. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to either the Maysville Baptist Church Building Fund or Gideons International.


He was buried on 30 December 2022 at Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce, Georgia.

     Michael Freeman married Toni Bagwell, daughter of James Donald Bagwell and Betty Jean Ward, after 1970.

     Fred Lynn Bagwell was born on 28 December 1921 in Greenville County, South Carolina. He was the son of Donald Virice Bagwell and Hattie Lillian Waters. He enlisted in the US Army on 24 July 1943 and served during World War II. Fred Lynn Bagwell married Elmyra Juliaette Davis before 1946. Fred Lynn Bagwell died on 28 February 1991 in Greenville Memorial Hospital, Greenville, South Carolina, at age 69. He was buried at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Greenville, Greenville County, South Carolina.

     Nellie Bagwell is the daughter of Donald Virice Bagwell and Hattie Lillian Waters.

     James Allen "Jamie" Bagwell was born on 22 April 1979 in Greenville, Greenville County, South Carolina. He was the son of James Allen Bagwell and Wanda Faye Stancil. James Allen "Jamie" Bagwell died on 13 July 2005 in Simpsonville, South Carolina, at age 26. He was buried on 17 July 2005 at Greenville Memorial Gardens, Greenville, Greenville County, South Carolina.

     Janice Fern Guthrie married James Severne Bagwell, son of Harold Allen Bagwell and Bonnie Ruth Gillespie, on 18 June 1981 at Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.

     Jeanine Norene Bagwell is the daughter of James Severne Bagwell. Jeanine Norene Bagwell married Alan Michael Garber on 11 August 1984 at Charlotte, North Carolina. Jeanine Norene Bagwell and Alan Michael Garber were divorced on 19 September 1994 at Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.

     Laura Irene Brinson married Donald Herman Bagwell, son of Bishop Herman Julian Bagwell and Vera Watson, on 4 June 1988.

     Joshua Anthony Bagwell is the son of John Burton Bagwell and Cindy Lee Demoss.¹ Joshua Anthony Bagwell married Teresa E. Barton on 2 November 2002 at Montgomery County, Ohio.

     Cynthia Bagwell is the daughter of Kenneth Ned Bagwell and Imogean Kelly. Cynthia Bagwell married Gary White after 1977.

     Curtis Eugene Bagwell is the son of Kenneth Ned Bagwell and Imogean Kelly.

     Stephen K. Bagwell married Maribeth Briscoe in October 1990 at Tucson, Arizona.

     Maribeth Briscoe was born on 27 May 1968. As of October 1990,her married name was Bagwell. She married Stephen K. Bagwell in October 1990 at Tucson, Arizona. Maribeth Briscoe died on 2 August 2020 in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, at age 52

Maribeth Briscoe Bagwell, 52, of Kings Mountain North Carolina peacefully passed away on August 2, 2020, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Born May 27, 1968 in Tucson Arizona, Maribeth found her love of the desert, horses, and reading. Falling in love, Kings Mountain became her home where she was blessed with two amazing children, Spencer and Jamie Bagwell, who survive her. A member of 1st Presbyterian Church and graduate of Gaston College School of Nursing, Maribeth dedicated her life to the service of others. As a devoted nurse, she had the honor to care for patients for over 28 years. Maribeth will be remembered for her love of the great outdoors, summers by the water fishing, her wicked sense of humor, infectious laugh, and fierce loyalty. She will be most remembered for her tremendous strength and courage, by her love and devotion to her children.
Maribeth will be missed dearly. She was preceded in death by her mother Alexis Green Briscoe and survived by her father James Austin Briscoe, Her Sisters and brother Lura Briscoe, Austin Briscoe, Jennifer Hill, Lacey Gibson. Her Best friends Cathy Tate, Stephanie Inglett, And Elizabeth Traficanti. Her children in spirit Dustin Stone, Seth Brewer, Christopher Dietz, Justin Cook, Tory Dover, Andrae McCorkle, Jessica Pullen, and Caroline Murray.

The family will receive friends at the home of Ruth Bagwell at 406 West Mountain Street, Kings Mountain, NC.
Services will be held Friday August 7th, at 10 AM, at the outdoor foyer of the Joy Performance Center.
