Ronda Lee Bagwell Thurmond, age 57, of Greensboro, GA, died Thursday, November 23, 2006 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born in Jackson County on January 25, 1949 to the late Joe Bagwell and Sallie Mae Whitehead Bagwell. Ronda was a 1967 graduate of Commerce High School where she was a cheerleader. In 1969 she graduated from Young Harris College and then graduated from Georgia Southern with a degree in early childhood education. She moved to Florida and taught Special Education for 13 years in the public school system. Later she graduated from Piedmont College with a masters degree. For 22 years, until March 5, 2006, she was a kindergarten school teacher. She spent most of that time at Greensboro Elementary School. She was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Jimmy R. Thurmond, of Greensboro, GA; two daughters, Melanie Burt of Greensboro, GA and Angela Ellington of Athens, GA; a son, Jim Thurmond of Greensboro, GA; three brothers, Merrill H. Bagwell of Commerce, GA, Joe Neal Bagwell of Cummins, GA and Steven W. Bagwell of Commerce, GA; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, November 26, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Greensboro Elementary School Gymnasium with The Rev. D. Geoffrey Taylor and Rev. Dennis Garner officiating. The family requests that any memorials be made in memory of Ronda B. Thurmond to the American Cancer Society, 1684 Barnett Shoals Road, Athens, GA 30605 or VistaCare Hospice Foundation, 150 Ben Burton Road, Bogart, GA 30622. The family will receive friends at their home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W. Broad St., Greensboro, GA, (706) 453-2626, is in charge of arrangements.
