Johnnie Lou Ragsdale, 88, a longtime resident of Alamogordo, NM, died peacefully of natural causes in her home on July 7, 2022.

Johnnie Lou was survived by her (5) siblings: ..., (6) children: ..; 16 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and beloved in-laws. She was predeceased by her husband Charles M. Ragsdale, son John Carlton Ragsdale, who died in infancy, and her brothers Elmo and Nolan Bagwell.

Johnnie Lou was born at Melrose, NM on August 15, 1933 to John Henry Bagwell and Mary Lou Smith. Shortly after her birth, her father moved his then small family to Muleshoe, Texas for several years, then returned to New Mexico to run his own farm and ranch north of Melrose, NM. Johnnie Lou graduated from Melrose High School in 1951, then attended New Mexico State University for two years before meeting and marrying Charles Melton Ragsdale, a handsome young Air Force sergeant returning from the Korean War.

She was active in the Methodist Church, sharing her fine soprano voice as a member of the church choir, as a soloist and as choir director. She attended Perkins School of Theology at SMU and worked as Christian Education Director at First United Methodist Church in Alamogordo, and also in two Methodist Churches in Oklahoma.

Johnnie Lou loved God, her family, singing, and her garden. She spoke proudly of how she earned the part of Laurie in Oklahoma while in high school, and her beautiful voice graced many Sunday services.

In 2013, Johnnie's daughter and granddaughter helped her write an autobiography. She ended her narrative with the words of Corinthians 13: "And now abideth faith, hope, and love, but the greatest of these is love of which there is no end." She followed that with, "My undying love to all of you, who have made my life so rich and happy!"

A funeral service is scheduled for July 20, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church of Alamogordo, 1206 Greenwood ln, Alamogordo, NM 88310. Randy Wallace will officiate at the service. A lunch reception will follow the service.

The Ragsdale family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements.

Elmo Eugene (Gene) Bagwell, 84, of Lockhart went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 14, 2020. He was born in Brownfield, Texas on July 13, 1935 to John H. and Mary Lou Bagwell. He married Wanda Fay Williams on August 23, 1957.

Gene grew up on a farm in Melrose, NM, the oldest son of seven children. After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy for four years. Following the Navy, he worked for LTV in Arlington, TX. In 1970, he moved his family to Lockhart and started a business in Austin. In his later years, he spent most of his time raising cattle. He was a member of Clear Fork Baptist Church, where he served as deacon for many years. He also obtained his private pilot’s license and served as president of the Lockhart Breakfast Lion’s Club.

Gene was proceeded in death by his wife of 53 years, Wanda Fay Bagwell, his parents, brother Nolan Bagwell, and grandson Benjamin Rich.

He is survived by his sons, Larry Bagwell and wife, Kim, Terry Bagwell and wife, Janet; and daughter, Brenda Hagan and husband, Billy. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tabitha Rich, Emily Bagwell, Brodie Hagan, Addison Hagan and Trent Hagan; great-grandsons, Trevor Rich and Hayden Rich; and siblings, Johnnie Lou Ragsdale, Patricia Romero, Flora Bradley, Karen Meyers and Gary Bagwell.

A visitation will be held on Monday, May 18, 2020 from 6-8 pm. Funeral services will begin on Tuesday at 10 am also at McCurdy Funeral Home with burial at the Lockhart City Cemetery.

     Wanda Fay Williams was born on 5 December 1938. As of 23 August 1957,her married name was Bagwell. She married Elmo Eugene "Gene" Bagwell, son of John Henry Bagwell and Mary Lou Smith, on 23 August 1957. Wanda Fay Williams died on 13 January 2011 in Lockhart, Caldwell County, Texas, at age 72

Wanda Fay Bagwell, 72, of Lockhart went to be with her Lord and Savior on Jan.13, 2011. She was born in Lockhart, Texas, on Dec. 5, 1938, to Troy and Bernice Williams. She married Elmo "Gene" Bagwell on Aug. 23, 1957.

Wanda retired in 2000 after 30 years of teaching in the Lockhart Independent School District. She was a member of Clearfork Baptist church for 64 years. She was also a member of Lockhart Retired Teachers Association and Lockhart Victims Assistance Team.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Troy Lee and Jessie Bernice Williams; sister, Nettie Lea Staton; brothers, Donald Ray, Bobby Joe and Roger Williams; and grandson Benjamin Rich.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Gene Bagwell; sons: Larry Bagwell and wife, Kim, Terry Bagwell and wife, Janet; and daughter, Brenda Hagan and husband, Billy. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Tabitha Rich, Emily
Bagwell, Addison Hagan, Brodie Hagan and Trent Hagan and great-grandson, Trevor Rich.

     Kimberly K. Jacobs married Larry Alan Bagwell, son of Elmo Eugene "Gene" Bagwell and Wanda Fay Williams, on 7 October 1989 at Caldwell County, Texas. Kimberly K. Jacobs and Larry Alan Bagwell were divorced on 9 November 1995 at Caldwell County, Texas.

     Janet (?) married Terry Bagwell, son of Elmo Eugene "Gene" Bagwell and Wanda Fay Williams, after 1978.

     William R. Hagan married Brenda Gayle Bagwell, daughter of Elmo Eugene "Gene" Bagwell and Wanda Fay Williams, on 16 December 1995 at Caldwell County, Texas.

     Patricia Ann Bagwell is the daughter of John Henry Bagwell and Mary Lou Smith. Patricia Ann Bagwell married (?) Romero after 1955.

     Gary Ladoyle Bagwell is the son of John Henry Bagwell and Mary Lou Smith. Gary Ladoyle Bagwell married Lynda Ann Hammond on 1 May 1959 at Brazoria, Texas.

     Nolan Ferris Bagwell was also known as Nolan Farris Bagwell. He was born on 3 October 1940 in Clovis, Curry County, New Mexico. He was the son of John Henry Bagwell and Mary Lou Smith. He served in the US Navy June 15, 1959 to May 31, 1963. Nolan Ferris Bagwell married Judy Gail Strickland before 1964. Nolan Ferris Bagwell married Katherine L. Wilson on 20 July 1973 at Caldwell County, Texas. Nolan Ferris Bagwell and Katherine L. Wilson were divorced on 1 March 1995. Nolan Ferris Bagwell died on 18 September 2007 in Lockhart, Caldwell County, Texas, at age 66. He was buried at Bunton Cemetery, Dale, Caldwell County, Texas.

     Katherine L. Wilson married Nolan Ferris Bagwell, son of John Henry Bagwell and Mary Lou Smith, on 20 July 1973 at Caldwell County, Texas. Katherine L. Wilson and Nolan Ferris Bagwell were divorced on 1 March 1995.

     William "Bill" Rogers was born on 17 August 1921. He married Rayma Dolores Bagwell, daughter of Floyd Henry Bagwell and Charliebelle Brunson, circa 1945. William "Bill" Rogers died on 19 October 2014 at age 93. He was buried at Magnolia Memorial Gardens, Magnolia, Montgomery County, Texas.

     Heather Allaire Malcom married Joseph Daniel Bagwell, son of Daniel Stephens Bagwell and Adele Kirby, on 1 February 1969 at Los Angeles, California. Heather Allaire Malcom and Joseph Daniel Bagwell were divorced on 18 August 1997 at King, Washington.

     Walter Arthur Woodcock was born in 1921. He married Arlie Bee Bagwell, daughter of Daniel Stephens Bagwell and Adele Kirby, before 1943. Walter Arthur Woodcock died in 1975. He was buried at Bayview Memorial Park, Pensacola, Escambia County, Florida.

     Esther Adele “Jane” Bagwell was born on 12 June 1932. She was the daughter of Daniel Stephens Bagwell and Adele Kirby. As of after 1950,her married name was Hanak. Esther Adele “Jane” Bagwell married Joseph Hanak after 1950. Esther Adele “Jane” Bagwell died on 8 June 1971 in Tallahassee, Leon County, Florida, at age 38. She was buried at Silverhill Cemetery, Silverhill, Baldwin County, Alabama.

     Joseph Hanak was born on 19 September 1913 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. He married Esther Adele “Jane” Bagwell, daughter of Daniel Stephens Bagwell and Adele Kirby, after 1950. Joseph Hanak died on 22 December 1972 in Fairhope, Baldwin County, Alabama, at age 59. He was buried at Silverhill Cemetery, Silverhill, Baldwin County, Alabama.

     Olin D. Carmichael married Maybelle Bagwell, daughter of Daniel Stephens Bagwell and Adele Kirby, after 1945.

     Cornelia Johnson was born on 8 August 1888. As of 19 August 1929,her married name was Bagwell. She married Henry Boson Bagwell, son of Joe W. Bagwell and Mary Elizabeth Bell, on 19 August 1929 at Santa Rosa County, Florida. Cornelia Johnson died on 13 July 1959 at age 70. She was buried at New Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery, Barnett Crossroads, Escambia County, Alabama.

     Vada Suritha George was born on 11 July 1902 in Alabama. As of 28 December 1918,her married name was Bagwell. She married Henry Boson Bagwell, son of Joe W. Bagwell and Mary Elizabeth Bell, on 28 December 1918 at Flomaton, Escambia County, Alabama. Vada Suritha George died on 15 October 1989 at age 87.

     Fredna Boyd was born on 27 December 1920. As of 10 February 1942,her married name was Bagwell. She married Esco Winthrop Bagwell, son of Henry Boson Bagwell and Vada Suritha George, on 10 February 1942 at Bridgeport, Connecticut. Fredna Boyd died in January 1986 at age 65. She was buried at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, Monroe, Ouachita Parish, Louisiana.

     Frednia Boyd Bagwell is the daughter of Esco Winthrop Bagwell and Fredna Boyd.

     Richard Bagwell is the son of Esco Winthrop Bagwell and Fredna Boyd. Richard Bagwell married Bea (?) after 1962.

     Larry Gale Bagwell was born on 28 November 1947 in Brookhaven, Lincoln County, Mississippi. He was the son of Esco Winthrop Bagwell and Fredna Boyd. Larry Gale Bagwell married Pam Williams after 1962. Larry Gale Bagwell died on 21 May 2025 in West Monroe, Ouachita Parish, Louisiana, at age 77

Funeral services celebrating the life of Larry Gale Bagwell, 77, of West Monroe, Louisiana will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, May 23, 2025 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe with Rev. Danny McIlveene and Rev. Gil Bragg officiating. Interment will follow immediately after in Hasley Cemetery. The visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service.

Larry Bagwell, a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, faithful friend, and longtime member of Community Baptist Church, entered Heaven's gates on May 21, 2025.

He was born on November 28, 1947 in Brookhaven, Mississippi, Larry lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service. He proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army. After his military service, he spent most of his career working in the oil field industry before retiring. Never one to slow down, Larry later worked as a courier for St. Francis Hospital until his second retirement.

Larry found joy in life's simple blessings. He loved to fish, mow, and piddle in his shed-always working on something. He was the kind of man who never sat still for long. He was always ready to lend a hand, share a story, or check in on someone he cared about. He loved his family with all his heart, treasured his friends, and was deeply committed to his church. One of his greatest joys was sharing the love of the Lord with others. With a heart of gold, Larry was always willing to help anyone in need.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Esco and Fredna Bagwell.

Left to celebrate his life are his loving wife of fifty-two years, Pam Williams Bagwell; daughter, Sunnie Bagwell of Monroe; son, Ron Bagwell of West Monroe; Grandchildren, Abbigale Jones, Aaron Jones, Annabell Bagwell, and Wyatt Bagwell; sisters, Rita Blaylock of Sanford, FL, and Millie Moreland and her husband, David of West Monroe; and his brother, Richard Bagwell of Pecan Island, LA and wife, Bea Bagwell. Larry is also lovingly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful and caring nurses of Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care as well as the doctors and nurses on the 5th floor at St. Francis.

Larry's life reflected the words of Proverbs 20:7: "The righteous man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed after him. "

Pallbearers will be Wyatt Bagwell, Aaron Jones, Noah Hatten, Richard "Tsos" Bagwell, Thad Bagwell, and Brad Moreland.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Community Baptist Church Building Fund or the charity of your choice in Larry's honor.
