Survivors include 2 daughters, Marie Bagwell, Rome, and Nichole Hunt, Rockmart; 4 sons, Carl Edward Bagwell, Raymond Duane Bagwell, and his fiancee, Emily Edwards, Elvis Trevayne Bagwell (Britni), and Blaine Tucker, all of Rome; a sister, Connie Chandler (Jimmy), Rome; the mothers of his children, Alice Banks, Adairsville, Linda Tucker, Cartersville, and Angela Bannister, Rockmart; 9 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson; nieces and nephews

Maude Louise Holloway died on 7 November 1983 in Floyd County, Georgia.¹ She was buried at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Rome, Floyd County, Georgia.¹

     Leonard Sherman Bagwell was born on 2 November 1930 in Rome, Floyd County, Georgia. He was the son of Carl B. Bagwell and Maude Louise Holloway. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Leonard Sherman Bagwell married Lenora Susie Waters on 26 September 1958 at Miami County, Ohio. Leonard Sherman Bagwell married Rena Sue (?) after 1959. Leonard Sherman Bagwell died on 25 February 2001 at age 70. He was buried at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Rome, Floyd County, Georgia.

     Rena Sue (?) was born on 20 July 1939. As of after 1959,her married name was Bagwell. She married Leonard Sherman Bagwell, son of Carl B. Bagwell and Maude Louise Holloway, after 1959. Rena Sue (?) died on 1 November 1991 in Floyd County, Georgia, at age 52. She was buried at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Rome, Floyd County, Florida.

     Lenora Susie Waters was born on 24 June 1907 in Ohio. As of 26 September 1958,her married name was Bagwell. She married Leonard Sherman Bagwell, son of Carl B. Bagwell and Maude Louise Holloway, on 26 September 1958 at Miami County, Ohio. Lenora Susie Waters died on 12 January 1970 in Orange County, Florida, at age 62. She was buried at Brevard Memorial Park, Cocoa, Brevard County, Florida.

     Maggie Ellen Phillips was born on 3 September 1932 in Spring Valley, Washington County, Arkansas. As of 19 September 1948,her married name was Bagwell. She married George Melory Bagwell Sr., son of Charles Abner Bagwell and Edith Evelyn Nelson, on 19 September 1948 at Madison County, Arkansas. Maggie Ellen Phillips died on 19 March 2023 in Springdale, Washington County, Arkansas, at age 90


Maggie Ellen Bagwell, age 90, passed away on March 19, 2023, in Springdale, Arkansas. She was born in Spring Valley, Arkansas on September 3, 1932, to the late Rev. Bruce Phillips and Elsie (Jones) Phillips. Maggie was a prayer warrior who leaves behind a legacy of the power of prayer to her family. She was a long time member of Phillips Chapel Free Will Baptist in Springdale, Arkansas. Maggie was preceded in death by her husband, George Bagwell Sr. and son, Bruce Duane Bagwell.

Maggie is survived by three sons, James Bagwell of Springdale, George Bagwell Jr. (Shirley) of Lowell, and Paul Bagwell (Connie) of Springdale; two daughters, Donna Burke (Donnie) of Springdale, and Beth Farmer of Fayetteville; two sisters, Pauline Kennard of Everett, Washington and Jean Bohannan of Dover, Arkansas; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren and a host of extended family.

Visitation will be 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2023, a Phillips Chapel Free Will Baptist in Springdale, Arkansas. Funeral Service will begin that same day at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. David Watson and Rev. Eldon Bagwell officiating. Interment to follow at Burkshed Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Aaron Bagwell, Adam Bolin, Rodney Burke, Shawn Bagwell, Eric Bagwell, Nathan Bagwell and Jonathan Isaacs. Honorary Pallbearer is David Woody.      Bruce Duane Bagwell was born on 4 May 1950 in Fayetteville, Washington County, Arkansas. He was the son of George Melory Bagwell Sr. and Maggie Ellen Phillips. Bruce Duane Bagwell married Brenda Kay Grigg circa 1969. Bruce Duane Bagwell died on 6 October 2022 in Bentonville, Benton County, Arkansas, at age 72


Bruce “Duane” Bagwell, age 72 of Elm Springs, died Thursday, October 6, 2022 at Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville. He was born May 4, 1950 in Fayetteville. Duane was a Sunday school teacher, deacon, and actively involved with the music ministry at Phillips Chapel Free Will Baptist Church for many years. He enjoyed working on projects around his house and was devoted to his wife and family.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Brenda (Grigg) Bagwell; his mother, Maggie (Phillips) Bagwell; three children, Sheri Bagwell, Aaron Duane Bagwell and wife Dr. Holli, LaDawna Bolin and husband Adam; five siblings, Jim Bagwell, Donna Burke, George Bagwell, Jr., Beth Lynn Bagwell, Paul Bagwell; three grandchildren, Alexys Bolin, Cameron Bolin and Abigail Bagwell. Duane was preceded in death by his father, George Melroy Bagwell, Sr.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral at 10 a.m. Monday, October 10, at Phillips Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. Interment will be at Elm Springs Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Phillips Chapel Free Will Baptist Church for mission work.

     Donna Bagwell is the daughter of George Melory Bagwell Sr. and Maggie Ellen Phillips. Donna Bagwell married Don Burk after 1966.

     Beth Lynn Bagwell is the daughter of George Melory Bagwell Sr. and Maggie Ellen Phillips. Beth Lynn Bagwell married (?) Farmer after 1966.

     Brenda Kay Grigg was born on 26 May 1950 in Littlefield, Texas. As of circa 1969,her married name was Bagwell. She married Bruce Duane Bagwell, son of George Melory Bagwell Sr. and Maggie Ellen Phillips, circa 1969. Brenda Kay Grigg died on 3 September 2023 in Elm Springs, Arkansas, at age 73


Brenda Kay Bagwell, age 73 of Elm Springs passed away Sunday, September 3, 2023, in her home. She was born May 26, 1950, in Littlefield Texas. Brenda was a seamstress as well as a retired cafeteria manager for Springdale Public Schools at Lee Elementary. She was a member of Phillips Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, arts and crafts, gardening and landscaping, and shopping. She was devoted to her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Elsa Cook Grigg along with her husband of 53 years, Bruce Duane Bagwell. Survivors include her children, Sheri Bagwell of Elm Springs, Aaron Bagwell and his wife, Holli of Elm Springs, LaDawna (Bagwell) Bolin and husband, Adam of Elm Springs. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Alexys Bolin, Cameron Bolin and Abigail Bagwell.

Funeral service will be 10:00AM, Thursday September 7, 2023 at Phillips Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:00AM till service time. Burial will follow in Elm Springs Cemetery under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home.      Nancy Charlene Bagwell is the daughter of Charles Columbus Bagwell Jr. and Bessie May Tucker.

     Frank Bernell Mayers was born on 8 January 1916 in Millport City, Lamar County, Alabama. He married Sarah Evelyn McEwen after 1937. Frank Bernell Mayers died on 8 July 2001 in Alliceville, Pickens County, Alabama, at age 85.

     Verna Mae Bagwell was born on 30 September 1914 in Alabama. She was the daughter of Lee Bagwell and Willie Dunn. As of after 1946,her married name was Laws. Verna Mae Bagwell married Eugene Laws Sr. after 1946. Verna Mae Bagwell died on 18 January 1986 in Wayne County, Kentucky, at age 71. She was buried at Elk Spring Cemetery, Monticello, Wayne County, Kentucky.

     Eugene Laws Sr. was born on 10 March 1923 in Kentucky. He married Verna Mae Bagwell, daughter of Lee Bagwell and Willie Dunn, after 1946. Eugene Laws Sr. died on 14 September 1998 in Kentucky at age 75.

     Roselyn L. Parker married George Newton Bagwell Jr., son of George Newton Bagwell and Eliza Templin, on 2 February 1981 at Pnaola County, Texas.

     Doris Inez Cheshire married George Newton Bagwell Jr., son of George Newton Bagwell and Eliza Templin, on 27 December 1951 at Shelby County, Texas.

     Sidney Louis Horton was born on 9 March 1912. He married Gladys Bagwell, daughter of George Newton Bagwell and Eliza Templin, on 26 May 1934 at Shelby County, Texas. Sidney Louis Horton died on 3 September 1988 at age 76. He was buried at Ramah Cemetery, Tenaha, Shelby County, Texas.

     Emily Caroline Bagwell is the daughter of James Ellis Bagwell and Nancy Caroline Wilson. Emily Caroline Bagwell married William Dwight Green after 1965.
